Pinnan alla

mural
2017

Pinnan alla was my proposal for a mural that won PINNALLA’17 idea competition organized by Architects’ Guild of Tampere. I painted the work together with visual artist Tiina Kaisa Leppänen in summer 2017.

The idea behind the work was to use the shapes of the old wall and the fact that it can be seen far. From a distance, the white spots can be seenas ice or as reflections of the water. Close up, the lines of the oars break and the shapes of the animals begin to emerge. Spectator dives into an underwater world.

For me pinnan alla is a work about human’s relationship and influence on nature, and it draws inspiration from Nordic mythology and the present state of the world.
